Few tips for safe nude modeling in Japan
Are you interested in nude modeling? Yet do you feel uneasy about giving it a try? Don't worry. Nude model is not a dangerous job as far as you know the pitfalls and how to avoid them. But it can be extremely dangerous if you leave your safety to chance.
First of all, nude model per se is not illegal in Japan. Therefore a lot of law abiding citizens and law abiding businesses hire nude models for various reasons. They are safe. Find them. Once you are hired by a lawful employer and you have right contract, nude modeling is safe. But you may not be able to find a good employer. Then, you may fail in one of many pitfalls WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE JOB.
As far as you deal with law abiding employers, nude modeling is low risk enterprise. If you are a Japanese citizen or a permanent resident and on or above 18 years old, you can be a free or paid nude model for photos, paintings, carvings or any other artistic business in private place. Though a foreign nude model needs proper visa to be paid, you do not need any permission, nevertheless, to be a nude model for free. Otherwise, you may not be able to find lawful employers. Although not all illegal nude model ends to rape-murder case, you cannot deny the possibility. If you are a foreigner, get all proper documents first. Then safest pass to nude modeling is wide open to you. You look around, check magazines, TVs, movies, videos, etc. You can see many female nudes in Japan. Which artists and publishers produce nude images you love? List them and contact them and ask them how they found nude models. They may hire nude models directly. But if you are wise, you need few more steps to be hired. When you talk to an artist, ask him to name a publisher. And a publisher, an artist. And always ask a nude model agent, too. You may come across few names repeatedly. That is the insiders' evaluations. Double check what outsiders, models, audiences, lawyers, etc. say about them. Select few best and cleanest. Send them your application. Since you want to be a nude model, don't forget to include your nude photos. If you have a pretty face and a great body, they want to hire you. Arrange job interviews and talk to them what you want. Be specific. See if and who can accommodate your conditions.
You may not have working visa. Then you cannot, officially, work. You can still volunteer to be a free nude model. And you can receive compensations to your travel expenses, etc. But you can not earn money. The best you can hope is once your nude is published, it becomes stunning success. Then someone would offer you to arrange working visa. Otherwise, and I say 99.99% of female nude models will be the otherwise, you get few beautiful nude photos and you retire.
Or you may be under 18. Then you can not be a nude model. You never find a lawful employer here in Japan. And you cannot volunteer to be a nude model for free, either. Further, even if you are willing to pay, you cannot hire any lawful cameraman to take your nude photos. You body is, due to your youth, obscene. That is
how the law is practiced recently. If you really want your nude taken, do it by yourself. You may ask someone to rent you equipments for nominal fee or free. Ask how to take photos. And do it by yourself. Sure, you cannot earn money. But you can upload your nude photos onto the internet by yourself. Don't forget to credit them and state that you are under 18. This will make a big fuss and give you publicity. Those laws are supposed to protect
you from older sex criminals. See if they really are. In USA, 15 years old girl has been accused of violating her own human rights and arrested as she took and published her own nude photos. But this is not USA. This is Japan. Who really control your body is not tested yet.
Even if you are legal age and have proper visa, you may not be able to find the employment if you do not live in Tokyo. The most of publishers, cameramen, artists, model agencies operate in Tokyo and few other big cities. If you cannot move, your choice is limited. You can send your photos to big name publishers, artists, etc. If you are really attractive, some of them may be interested and come to you once or twice. And your modeling career is ended. If you love to be nude, nevertheless, you can contact local model agencies. Those small agencies send models to small local employers. You may find yourself posing for an amateur cameraman next town. It still is a nude job. Or you may contact a highschool in your town. You can meet an art teacher and probably a teacher for the students' photograph society, too. Though a highschool does not hire nude models, they may know local artists/photographers who would hire you.
As far as you live in a big city and clear of all legal matter, you can get a nude job easily and you can get it from a lawful employer. But I do not guarantee the modeling fee. You can get as much as your commodity value can command. Once you have contacted law abiding employers and found that they did not pay as much as you wanted, lower your expectation or forget about nude modeling for good. Never wait someone approaches you and offers you exactly what you asked. Many criminals are making empty promises all over the world. They live in Japan, too.
Many women in Japan are willing to be nude only if they can stay anonymous, This is not difficult. You find a lawful employer first, then make the contract accordingly. Sure, your employer knows your real name since you must sign the true name to the contract. But nobody else knows. You want to join a model agency so that you need to sign the contract only once. If you want your face hidden too, you can make the contract accordingly. In return you will get very meager pay.
You are heading to danger if law abiding employers do not want to deal with you because of your geographic disadvantage, legal status, age, expensive modeling fee or need to withhold your identity. You can attract many leeches by placing classified advertisements on freepapers serving expatriate population in Tokyo or other big cities. Your advertisements looking for nude model job will be answered by some law abiding citizens genuinely interested in nude arts. But they would not hire you because of already stated reasons. Majority would be good natured men who want to hire you as a private stripper. The rest would be criminals. Or you merely wish to be a model and wait. Then one day bad luck befalls on you. Someone approaches you on a street. He asks if you are interested in modeling. 99% have nothing to do with modeling. About half are criminals.
